7 Important Things About Blogging You Really Need to Know

Hello everyone, my name is Shyla and I have been blogging for about 3 years. Blogging can be a fun and challenging experience. It is easy to start a blog, but you may find yourself struggling at some point. Today I will be letting you in on 7 important things about blogging you really need to know. Also, a big thank you Bloggers Revolution Media for having me as a guest!

Blogging Is Harder Than It Looks

I think most people jump into blogging without realizing how much work it is. Honestly, when I first started blogging, I thought I would magically get visitors just by writing and posting something.

Boy did I have a lot to learn! Now do not let me frighten you away from your dreams. I know when you are bound and determined to do something no one can stop you.

One especially important step to becoming a successful blogger is to take your blog seriously from the beginning. Understand and map out your challenges, plan your content, and apply tried and true strategies.

Network with other bloggers to find solutions to your problems and allow yourself time to yourself to mentally recuperate.

Focus on Your Content

It is easy to get caught up on numbers and statistics as a blogger. For that reason, this is one of the most important things about blogging you really need to know.

Content is king! It really is. Producing stellar content is what will define your blog from all the rest. Google’s algorithm not only prefers professionally written informative content, but it rewards it with higher page positions too.

Now I am not saying that from day one you will end up on the front page of Google if you write great content. I am saying that writing clear helpful content will get aid you in ranking in the long run.

Apply good SEO techniques early on and focus on your content quality. Numbers are important, but you cannot get numbers without great content.

SEO Really Matters

Learning about SEO early on is one of the best things you can do for yourself as a blogger. Do not let it drive you crazy because no website is perfect but do make it a priority.

Doing things like updating older content, using good keyword research, and backlink building can really give your website a boost.

Make your SEO efforts a continuous work in progress and you will be surprised to see better results over time.

Blogging Takes Time

This is something about blogging I wish I had known in the beginning. I started a blog to earn “quick money”.

If you are starting a blog for that reason, I suggest you rethink it at least a little bit. Do not expect results over night.

You might get lucky, but the chances are it could be months before you see your first dollar from blogging.

Again, set realistic expectations and work towards your goals. Over time you can raise your goals and work to achieve them.

Blogging does get easier the longer you stick with it and grow as a blogger.

Traffic Equals More Money Opportunities

Focusing on building up your traffic should be a huge priority. If you practice good SEO and produce quality content you will start to see your traffic grow naturally.

Another good thing about increasing traffic is that you stand a better chance of earning money with your blog if you choose to monetize it.

If your blog has affiliate links and you have plenty of traffic you may get more purchases!

Have you placed ads on your website? Well as your traffic grows so will your ad revenue. Promote your content as much as possible and you will likely see more positive results.

Things Will not Always Go Your Way

Having a blog means there is a lot of opportunity to make money in a wide variety of ways. Ads, sponsored posts, affiliate programs, and so much more.

You may find yourself sending email pitches to new brands to find collaboration work. You may also be surprised someday to find a big fat “No” in your inbox.

An important thing about blogging that you really need to know is that things will not always go your way. Learn how to accept a negative response with dignity and finesse.

Some things are not meant to be and that is okay. Simply accept the small defeat and move on to your next venture. Never dwell on these things.

Over time you will develop a tougher skin and learn from it. Eventually you will be sending out awesome pitches that are hard to resist.

You Will Develop Your Own Way of Doing Things

Over time you are going to learn and grow as a blogger in ways you never imagined. You will eventually go back and look at your older content with a fresh set of eyes and make improvements.

Blogging is a huge learning experience. I personally learn something new almost every day. Learn to step out of your comfort zone.

You will develop your own way of doing things that comes as natural as walking. It is okay to make mistakes, but if you continue to learn from them you are evolving as a blogger.

Being a work in progress is nothing to be ashamed of, but something to celebrate.

I hope this post inspires a few other bloggers to keep pushing forward.

Your blog is your own adventure. From the moment you create it you are taking a huge leap into the unknown.

Make the most of your blogging experience and do your absolute best. If you work hard you will come across so many great opportunities and meet a lot of wonderful people along the way.
